"2022 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp" Reflections from participants

“2022 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp" has lived up to expectations and was brought to a successful end. This year's summer camp has benefited from the promotion of multiple forces, including the support of leaders, the efforts of the organization team, and the active cooperation of foreign participants and Chinese volunteers. Everyone's hard work has contributed to the success of this year's summer camp, which will leave a happy and unforgettable memory for everyone involved. Although it has came to an end, the seeds of friendship are just beginning to sprout. Let's have a look at what special feelings the foreign teachers and students gained in the Youth Camp.

Leading teacher Ms. Ahn HeeJung from Busan, Korea

I am very honored to participate in this Shanghai Youth Camp as a teacher of Team Busan. Already at the start of the camp, we were able to receive friendly and detailed guidance from passionate young volunteers in Shanghai. I was impressed by their fluent Korean skills. As I received a cute backpack, T-shirt, and various cultural experience kits from Shanghai, I felt like I was connected closer to the Shanghai Youth Camp even if I was far from Shanghai. The online camp started and I was once again impressed by the fluent English of the volunteers in Shanghai. It would have been nice if we could meet face to face in one place, but I could find the benefits of online camp through this experience. Because the camp was held online, young people in Africa, Europe, South America, and Australia, as well as Asia, were able to participate in the camp. Thanks to this, I was able to hear the beautiful song of an African boy and see the fantastic dance of a Shanghai girl through the zoom meeting. It was also good to provide content using the "tang class" app. It was convenient to watch the video material repeatedly anytime, anywhere. I would like to express my gratitude to volunteers in Shanghai who have successfully completed this meaningful event. I believe that this camp also inspired my students and it will help them grow into global leaders.

Leading teacher Mr. Yuko Soda from Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan

"I joined this camp with students in 2013. We stayed in a high school dorm, ate every meal together, learned Chinese, 太極拳, experienced Chinese culture and visited many places. It was a wonderful experience and is still an unforgettable memory. However because of the epidemic, from which we have been suffering for more than two years, people are restricted in many ways. Through this online camp, I was impressed so much by the young generation’s power overcoming the obstacles with technology, ideas and passion. I really appreciate all people who have led this camp to a big success."

Leading teacher Ms. Edith Violeta Franco Enriquez from Jalisco State, Mexican States

"I want to thank to all the staff members for this great experience in the Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp 2022. This has been a great experience. It was incredible to get to know some details about your culture, traditional foods, landscapes, education, cultural expressions and more. The online resources were very interesting. We have been learning together incredible things. There are students from Mexico and from all over the world, you did a great job. I hope we can meet one day in the future."

Jacqueline Alexandra de la Torre Gonzalez from Jalisco State, Mexican States

"It was a great, one of the most incredible and awesome experience that I have had in my life so far, I’m a little nostalgic because the camp has finished, I really want to participate next year and I hope it can be in the presential way to meet all the friends that I made this time. I’m very grateful for all the things that the volunteers did for the participants of Mexico, they’re amazing people."

Park Soyoung from Busan, Korea

"Sharing and exchanging ideas with global friends through Zoom meetings is a very rewarding experience."

Firdaus Aryawiguna from Jakarta Capital City, Indonesia

Luca Milcoveanu from Rotterdam, Netherlands

"It is really amazing that so many students from all over the world to share their passion for the Chinese culture and language. I look forward to visiting Shanghai in the future and meeting with my group."
