Official invitations issued for the 2022 Youth Camp

Official invitations were recently issued for the “2022 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp”, a critical people-to-people exchange program under the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission to serve the national “Belt and Road” initiative and maximize the role of bridgehead. The camp will be held online by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission from July 18 to 31, 2022. High school students from Shanghai's sister cities worldwide are invited to join this online event to learn, exchange, and deepen friendships with students in Shanghai.

The meeting of “Shanghai International Sister Cities” took place in recent days.Hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and undertaken by Education Bureau of Yangpu District, with the International Education Association Shanghai and Yangpu Education International Exchange Service Center as co-organizers, the “2022 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp” was then listed as a key program in the field of people-to-people exchange in this year’s work on sister cities. Also, the year 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, the China-US joint communique, and the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and New Zealand, as well as the 30th anniversary of China-South Korea diplomatic relations; and it comes at a time of the announcement of the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership. At this particular time, mobilizing sister city resources and promoting teenage exchange activities will contribute to the big picture of the country's diplomacy.

The 13-year-old “Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp” has attracted 1,287 teachers and students from 41 sister cities in 37 countries so far by now. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the “2021 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp” was hosted online for the first time, with over 180 foreign high school students in 19 sister cities from 17 countries and over 140 students in Shanghai attending online courses and activities. And the Camp gained significant attention and support from the Shanghai Municipal Government, foreign embassies and consulates, and offices of sister cities in Shanghai. They sent representatives to participate in the opening and closing ceremonies and extended their appreciation and congratulation on the success of the event in different ways.

In the “2022 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp”, the cultural landscape of Shanghai and the traditional Chinese culture will still be presented via the Internet. Students can learn Chinese and attend youth forum online, engaging themselves in a lively, attractive, and unique summer camp.
