Volunteer Recruitment for 2022 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp Kicks Off

In an effort to deepen the educational and cultural exchanges between Shanghai and its sister cities worldwide and promote the friendship and understanding among teenagers from different countries, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission (SHMEC) intends to hold online the “2022 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp” from July 18 to 31. The Camp’s online platform will continue to serve as a showcase of not only Shanghai’s local custom but also Chinese traditional culture. It will also provide students with Chinese learning activities, Chinese culture experiences, youth forum and communications and interactions. 

As one of the organizers of the Camp, starting from this February, International Education Association Shanghai has been sending out the invitation for the 2022 Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp to over 40 sister cities in 37 countries around the world through foreign consulates and representatives offices stationed in Shanghai, overseas Chinese embassies and consulates, overseas institutes and universities. As of now, participation confirmations of 91 teachers and students from 12 sister cities have been received, including Nagasaki and Yokohama of Japan, Busan of South Korea, Chiang Mai of Thailand, Jakarta of Indonesia, Barcelona of Spain, St. Petersburg of Russia, Rotterdam of the Netherlands, Cork of Ireland, Espoo of Finland, Quebec of Canada and  KwaZulu of  South Africa. Meanwhile, the application is still underway in many other sister cities and it is sure that more students and teachers will join the Camp and the total estimated number of participants will exceed 100.

Designated by SHMEC, International Education Association Shanghai will again join the Education Bureau of Yangpu District and Yangpu Education International Exchange Service Center in the volunteer recruitment for this year’s camp. The recruitment is scheduled to take place in May, selecting outstanding middle high school students as volunteers for the Camp. For now, volunteers of English, Japanese, Korean, French, and Russian are wanted for the volunteer posts. Constrained by the latest pandemic outbreak in Shanghai, the recruitment, interview and training will be thoroughly conducted online.
